نصٌّ مكتوبٌ بإحترافيَّة عالية، يُحاول أن يرصد مأساة جيل كامل ينسحق تحت آلة الحرب المُدمرة، تُنتَهك تطلّعاته وتتبدّد أحلامه ويفقد هويّته وذاكرته وتاريخه، لا سيّما هؤلاء الذين يمتلكون بذرة الإبداع والخَلق، فثمّة الموسيقى عازف البيانو "بسّام" وصانعة الرسوم المتحركة زوجته "ندى" والفنانة التشكيلية المغرقة في التصوف "نارسس" سليلة الأسرة الإيرانية الإرستقراطية، وأستاذة الموسيقى "سارة"؛ المرأة اليهودية، ذات التوجهات اليساريّة التي تنتشل "بسّام" من ضياعه وتخبّطه في مخيم اللاجئين وتقدّمه إلى عالم الموسيقى المبهر.
لكنّها في الوقت نفسه قِصَّه البسطاء من العرب، هؤلاء الذين أضاعوا بوصلتهم ووقعوا، في لحظات نادرة من التاريخ، في براثن الخديعة والعنف والرّذيلة من دون أن يفقدوا أرواحهم تماماً، مثل "نعيمة" و"نسيمة" و"عبد الله" و"أمّ حسونة".
تحاول هذه الرواية، التي استندت إلى تكنيك غير معقّد ولغة خاصّة، أن تقدّم تلك التفاعلات الدرامية الموجعة وترصد التأثيرات الإنسانية الساحقة من دون أن تتدخل في الأحداث أو تنحاز إلى جهة أو معتقد ما أو إخضاع تلك الأفكار والإنثيالات لمحاكمة غير منصفة، لا ترصد في الواقع سوى الإنسحاق الإنساني، في محاولة لإطلاق صرخة مكتومة، لا تكاد تغادر الحَلْق، ليس بوجه الحرب ومآسيها وحسب، إنما بسبب الألم والفجيعة.
