إن المؤلف يطرح هنا فكرة جديدة تتعلق باستخدام الحواسيب والسيطرة عليها لتوجيهها نحو أهداف الإنسان، بدلاً من أن يقع الإنسان تحت سيطرتها، وقد سمى طريقة التناول الجديدة تلك حوسبة محورها الإنسان، وسمى الآلات فيها آلات محورها الإنسان.
لكي تركز نظم الحواسيب على احتياجات الإنسان وقدراته. بدلاً من أن تجبره على الركوع لها إزاء تفاصيلها الآلية المعقدة التي تستعصي على الفهم. ويمكن للمرء كما يرى المؤلف أن يبدأ بالحواسيب التي ليده، وذلك بمجرد أن يغير من طريقة استعماله لها.
إن هذا الكتاب يضع الأساس لطريقة التناول التي يكون الإنسان محورها، بأن يشرح بلغة الحياة العادية اليومية القوى الخمس الأساسية التي تحددها والطرائق التي سوف يستخدمها بها الناس وما يمكن أن يكون لها من تأثير في الحياة.
والكتاب موجه نحو أولئك الذين يستعملون الحواسيب ومن أجل التقنيين الذين يبنونها وذلك ليتعرفوا إلى الاتجاه الذي ينبغي أن توجه إليه القوة الساحقة للحوسبة.
