ليس هذا الكتاب عملاً عادياً يتطرق إلى إنقاذ الغرقى كمهنة أو وسيلة عيش، بل هو كتاب جامع وشامل ينظر غلى إنقاذ الغرقى كرسالة إنسانية، ولذلك يتشدد في اختيار منقذ الغرقى، ويكثر من الملاحظات والتنبيهات، فيلفت نظر المنقذ إلى مقومات المنقذ الناجح، ويدله على ما يسيء إليه وإلى رسالته مما يؤدي إلى الفشل. ومن جهة أخرى يوصي بالعناية بالمنقذ واحترامه وتأمين العيش اللائق له، كي يستطيع أن يؤدي رسالته على أكمل وجه.
وفي سبيل ذلك استعان مؤلف هذا الكتاب من الخبرات التي تراكمت في الدول المتقدمة وهو لك يكتف بنقلها، بل عمل على إنمائها انطلاقاً من خبرته الخاصة وعمله الطويل في ميدان إنقاذ الغرقى. ولم ينس المؤلف هذه السباحة، فخصصهم بالعديد من الملاحظات القيمة التي قد تساعدهم على تفادي الغرق أو الموت المحتم، وشملت نصائحه كل الميادين المتعلقة بهم تقريباً من السباحة من البركة وأحواض السباحة إلى السباحة في البحر والأنهر والبحيرات إلى أنواع الرياضة البحرية التي يمارسونها، وإلى الحيوانات البحرية الخطرة التي قد تعترضهم وتسبب لهم الأذى، كما ولم ينسى المؤلف التطرق إلى الإسعافات الأولية التي يمكن المنقذون تطبيقها عند أصحابه أحد هواة السباحة، ونعرض أيضاً للمشاكل الصحية والأخطار التي قد تصيب المستحمين والسابحين.
