قرابة سبعة عشر عاماً عشتُها في دمشق بدءاً من مطلع التسعينيات، شهدتُ خلالها التغييرات الكثيرة التي أصابت المدينة، وأثار إهتمامي بشكل خاص الوجود المتزايد للمزارات الشيعية الحديثة في قلب الأحياء القديمة، والنشاط غير العادي للعراقيين واللبنانيين والسفارة الإيرانية في دمشق ومحيطها، ومثل كثيرين من القاطنين في العاصمة، فإن التحوّل المتسارع وكثافة حضور المظاهر الشيعية في الحياة العامة والتبشير واسع النطاق لم يكن أمراً ممكناً معه تجنٌّب السؤالَيْن الآتيين: ماذا يحدث؟ ولماذا؟.
فمع بروز مفهوم الهلال الشيعي الذي يمتد من إيران إلى جنوب لبنان بعد الإحتلال الأمريكي للعراق، وبجوار جملة من النشاطات المتزايدة للمبشرين الشيعة في سورية والمؤسسات المتكاثرة التي أثارت السكان المحليين، أخذ موضوع النشاط الشيعي التبشيري في سورية يحظى بإهتمام محليّ وإقليمي ودولي، وأصبح أحد الموضوعات التي تجتذب إهتمام الصحافة العربية والعالمية، ذلك أنَّ خطورة التبشير الشيعي ليس في كونه نشاطاً دينياً صرفاً، بل في كونه جزءاً من فعل سياسي يتعلّق بتغييرات القوى في المنطقة، والتطوّرات التي لحقت بالمحور السوري الإيراني فحوَّلته إلى محور إستراتيجي بالنسبة إلى دمشق.
عملتُ على هذا البحث لمدة عام كامل، جبت فيه مناطق عديدة في سورية، وتابعت كل ما نُشر حول الموضوع في ذلك الوقت، وقابلت أشخاصاً عديدين فاعلين في التشييع، وزرت مقامات وأضرحة وحسينيّات، وحَضَرت إحتفالات دينية وانشطة ثقافية، وحصلت على وثائق حكومية سريّة بالغة الأهمية، وتجمّع لديّ كمٍّ هائل من المعلومات، وصارت الصورة واضحة بما يكفي لفهم ما يجري.
يغطّي هذا الكتابُ مرحلةً طويلةً من تاريخ سورية، تمتد من تأسيس الدولة السورية وحتى نهاية عام 2007، وما حصل بعد ذلك وحتى قيام الثورة السورية العظيمة في آذار / مارس 2011 هو إمتداد طبيعي ويمكن التنبؤ به بسهولة بناءً على معلومات الكتاب في فترة حكم بشار الأسد، لكنّ النقلة النوعية والجذرية التي حصلت بعد الثورة تحتاج إلى دراسة جديدة، وهو ما أعمل عليه الآن.
