يستعرض هذا الكتاب "أكثر الجرائم بشاعة في العالم" للفترة (1902-1972)، وهي جرائم حدثت في البلدان الغربية في أوقات مختلفة ولأسباب متعددة اشترك في تنفيذها الكبار والصغار من النساء والرجال والأطفال.
ومن هذه الجرائم التي يتحدث عنها الكتاب قضية أجهدت عبقرية "شارلوك هولمز" حدثت في مونتانا في شهر أيلول 1951، لقد تم العثور على جثة رجل عجوز إسمه "دونسون" في غرفته، وقد أصيب برصاصة في قلبه - كانت تبدو عملية إنتحار، ولكن يكشف التحقيق أن الولد هو من قتل أباه !!
ومن هذه الجرائم أيضاً نفاجأ بأن هناك أطفالاً قتلة، وبالغون قتلة، وفنانون قتلة، وعظماء ومفكرين ومشاهير وعباقرة كانوا ساديين ولديهم نزعة عدوانية قوية، مثل الكاتب الإنجليزي المعروف "ويليام شكسبير" و "جون ميلتون" و "بن جونسون" ، "جميعهم كانوا يحملون النزعة العدوانية في صغرهم.
يذكر الكتاب أن "بيتر كيرتن" المعروف في مدينة "دزلدورف" بأنه سادي، وكان إرهابياً قاتلاً، لقد قتل ثمانية أشخاص إضافة إلى طعنه عدداً كبيراً من الناس. وقد اعترف بأنه كان قد ارتكب جريمته الأولى بالقتل حينما كان عمره تسع سنوات.
أما "دينكي" الغريب الأطوار، فقد كان يضم لحم الإنسان مع الخل، واحتفظ بسجل مفصل من 30 ضحية قتلهم جميعاً وباع من لحومهم إلى الناس وأكل أجزاء أخرى !! وأما "فروسمان" ، المتخصص في تحليل اللحم، فقد قتل أعداداً كبيرة من النساء اللاتي جلبهن من محطة القطار وباع أجسامهن لحماً يأكله الناس!
