المرابطون هم البرابرة الصنهاجيون اللمتونيون، الملتمون، السنيّه، وقد سماهم بذلك قائدهم الروحي، وإمامهم عبد الله بن ياسين، فعرفت دولتهم بدولة المرابطين، وحكّامهم بأمراء المسلمين المرابطين ففي القرن الخامس عشر الهجري، الحادي عشر الميلادي، انطلق من صحراء المغرب، من قبيلة صنهاجة البربرية، شعلة لمتونية، بقيادة فقهاء وعلماء، يدعون إلى الإصلاح، والتقوى، والعبادة، ويمارسون المجوسيّة في قبيلتهم، ويتخذون لأنفسهم رباطات، وزوايا للتأمل، وللتهيؤ، فكانت بيوت دين وحرب. حتى إذا كثر عددهم، انطلقوا في رحاب المغرب الواسعة، بقوة إيمانهم، يدعون إلى الحق والعدل، ويحاربون المنكرات، ويقومون الأشرار في البوادي، وفي المدن، فكانت لهم المغرب، وأصبح لهم دولة، ازدهرت أيام المرابط يوسف بن تاشفين القائد، الذي أصبح "أمير المسلمين" بعقد من الخليفة العباسية في عهده بعد أن دانت له الأندلس، وان أهل الأندلس، وملوكها، قد استجدوا به صدّاً لغارات الفرنجة، وللقهر، والذل، اللذين تعرض لها ملوك الطوائف من قبيل "الغونس السادس"، فجاز يوسف ابن تاشفين البحر إلى الأندلس مرّات أربع، حتى تأكد من ضعف ملوك الطوائف، واحتيال بعضهم، وغدرهم، راح مع قائده سير بن أبي بكر، والمرابطين، يفتحون الأندلس بلدة، بلدة، ويخضعونها لدولتهم، التي أصبحت تمتد من أفريقية حتى الأندلس حوالي قرن.
وكانت العلوم والفنون والآداب والفلسفة مزدهرة في الأندلس من قبل، فظلت أيام المرابطين، وان اهتم المرابطون بالعلوم الدينية والفقهية، واهتدا ببناء المساجد، وتخطيط المدن، لكنهم كرهوا الكلام، والفلسفة، ولعل تزمت الفقهاء المالكيين، وسيطرتهم على مرافق الحياة، خنق حرية الفكر، فأدى إلى سقوط دولتهم بيد دولة أخرى من البربر، دولة الموحدين هكذا تستعرض الدكتورة ثريا ملحس في كتابها هذا وفي سلسلة من تراثنا، تاريخ المرابطين اللمتونيون بين القرنين الخامس والسادس للهجرة (الحادي عشر والثاني عشر للميلاد) ملقية الضوء على أصلهم ونشأتهم ودولتهم وأخبارهم. لتغني بذلك مكتبة التراث والتاريخ الإسلامي بصورة عامة بهذه الدراسة التاريخية التي تغني الباحث والدارس والطالب على السواء.
