لقد شحنت المصادر الإسلامية بالأحاديث والروايات التي أشارت إلى الخمس والأنفال وصرحت بأن الشارع المقدس حظراً الزكاة على أهل البيت بينما زودهم بالمقابل بالخمس والأنفال. ولعل هذه الرؤية وإن تضمنت الحقيقة، ولكنها تختزن ذهنية أخرى تفيد عدم وجود مصادر مالية لأهل البيت سوى هذين المصدرين، وعنهم إنما كانوا يغطون جميع الحاجات والمتطلبات، بل حتى الهدايا التي كانوا يهبونها إلى بعض الأفراد والمساعدات التي يقدمونها إلى الضعفاء والمعوزين إنما كانوا يستقونها من الموردين المذكورين.
وبالطبع فإن الصورة التي تحملها هذه الذهنية قد أصبح إن كانت بصيغة فكرة جزئية، لكنها تجانب الصواب من الناحية الكلية، وإن سيرتهم العملية عليهم السلام تشير إلى خلاف ذلك. نعم هيهات أم يكون الأمر كذلك وهم الذين يعظون الناس بالسعي والعمل وبذل الجهد ويصطلحون على الزراعة وكد اليد بالكيمياء الكبرى من جانبن ومن جانب آخر يعرضون بالذم لمن قاطع العمل وكان عالة على غيره.
إن صفات التاريخ لم تشر من قريب أو بعيد إلى الأنشطة الاقتصادية التي كان يمارسها النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إبان البعثة وحتى الهجرة وما بعدها، لكنها تضمنت أكثر التفاصيل لنشاطه الاقتصادي قبيل البعثة، الأمر الذي يعمله القاصي والداني.
أما الكتاب الذي بين يديك فيتناول هذا الموضوع بصورة مستقلة من خلال بعض الأدلة بما فيها الأدلة التاريخية والتي تشير بما لا يقبل الشك إلى أن الأئمة عليهم السلام وإضافة إلى الخمس والأثقال كانوا ينشطون في مزاولة الأعمال التجارية وممارسة الأنشطة الاقتصادية، بالتالي يمكن إيجاز مواردهم الشخصية في الأمور التالية: 1-النحلة التي زودهم بها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (فدك وغيرها). 2-الهدايا التي كان الناس يحملونها إليهم من أطيب وأطهر أموالهم. 3-المصادر المالية التي كانت تدرها عليهم الأنشطة الزراعية من قبيل إصلاح الأراضي وري البساتين وشق الآبار والقنوات. 4-الأعمال التجارية التي كانوا يسندوها لبعض معتمديهم.
