"في التعريب والمعرب" مصنف صغير عرض فيه ابن بري لكتاب "المعرب" لأبي منصور موهوب بن محمد بن الخضر الجواليقي، فتعقب أقواله فأورد حواشيه عليها منسوقة على حروف المعجم. لقد درج في هذه الحواشي على إيراد قول ابن الجواليقي ثم يعقبها بكلامه هو مصححاً تارة في اشتقاق الكلمة وما جاء في أصلها وما قيل فيها، ومضيفاً تارة أخرى فوائد ليست تصحيحاً.
ولقد قدم هذه "الحواشي" بنبذة في طرائق التعريب عند العرب، وكيف تصرفوا في الكلم الأعجمي.
ولعل قيمة هذه "الحواشي" تتجلى في أنها تتصل بكتاب "المعرب" لابن الجواليقي، وهو أشهر كتاب في هذا الباب في العربية، ومن أوائل ما صنف في "المعربات". وكان ابن بري أدرك قيمة "المعرب" والحظوة التي حظي بها لدى الدارسين فأراد أن يتناوله ناقداً ومصححاً ومستدركاً.
