يضيف هذا الكتاب إلى المكتبة التاريخية معلومات جديدة كل الجدّة، فهو يساهم في إضاءة ما اختلف عليه المؤرخون، كما أنه ينشر أحداثاً مطوية، ويصل تحركات بثورة، ويصحح أغلاطاً شائعة في الفترة التي احتواها هذا الكتاب. كان المؤرخون يختلفون حول تاريخ قيام "الثلاثة نجوم": الإمام إسماعيل بن أحمد الكبسي المعروف بـ"المفلس"، والإمام الهادي "أحمد بن علي السراجي"، والإمام "الحسين بن علي السراجي" وكانوا يختلفون حول علاقة الإمام الناص عبد الله بن الحسن بكل من "السراجي" و"المؤيدي"، وحول توقيت خروج الإمام "المؤيدي"، وتاريخ وفاته.
وكان المؤرخون يتحدثون بثقة عن إمامة "أحمد بن علي السراجي" إماماً شرعياً مفترض الطاعة، وكان البعض الآخر يعتبره داعياً للإمام الناصر "عبد الله بن الحسن"، وإذا بالقارئ يتفاجأ بأنه ليس إماماً وليس داعية للناصر، ولكنه قائم مفوض بأعمال إمام شرعي هو "إسماعيل الكيس" وكان هؤلاء المؤرخون، يضطربون فيها اضطراباً عنيفاً، وكان البعض يتحدثون عن بعض الوقائع حديثاً ضبابياً بدون أن يفصلوا أحداثها، أو يتوسعوا فيها، وإنما هو هذا الشيء الغامض الذي يضطرب اضطراباً غامضاً، ثم يتحدث الناس فيه مبهمين، لا يدركون حقيقته، ولا يتبنون موقعه.
وجاء هذا الكتاب ليضع حداً لذلك الاضطراب والاختلاف، وينهي جدلاً مزمناً حول تلك القضايا. وقد يعتبر الكتاب انتهاء لذلك الجدل المزمن، إلا أنه في الوقت نفسه، إضافات تاريخية غير مباشرة، فمعارك الإمام "المؤيدي" في أعالي الشمال، جهلها المؤرخون، فكشف هذا الكتاب جانباً منها، وهو في ذلك جديد كل الجدّة. ومن هنا جاءت أهميته. يضاف إلى ذلك أهمية المؤلف، ذلك أنه كان معاصراً لوقائع تلك الفترة، وصديقاً لرؤسائها، فهو شاهد عليها وعليهم، بل كان مسهماً في صياغة أحداثها. عاصر الأئمة الثلاثة، واختلط بهم، وشاركهم في أعالهم عندما كان قريباً منهم، وكان "المؤيدي" يستشيره ويكاتبه عندما كان بعيداً عنه. وكان، إلى جانب ذلك، من مدرستهم السياسية والعلمية نفسها. عليماً بمناهجهم، وخبيراً بتوجهاتهم. ولأنه نبت في أرضية الأحداث نفسها، فقد تمكن من معرفة التيارات كلها، موافقاً أو معارضاً، مما أهله لأن يضبط سيرها التاريخي ضبطاً ممكناً. وحيث أنه كتب من موقع مطلع، فقد ملكت وقائعه توثيقاً قوياً، ترغم الباحث على قبولها ضد ما تمّ التعارف عليه.
