الثناء الحسن على أهل اليمن كتاب حافل بمناقب أهل اليمن وفضائلهم بما شمل من أنواع التاريخ، وربما حوى من الفوائد العظيمة التي لا يحويها مؤلف غيره جعله المؤلف في تاريخ العرب وقبائل اليمن وانسيابهما ورتبه في خمسة فصول، ترجم فيها للرجال المذكورين وعرض لنبذة من حياتهم وحياة معاصريهم. وهو كتاب لا غنى عنه لمستزيد ولمن يريد أن يستفيد من مؤرخين ودارسين للأدب، وأتى فيه على ذكر حمير وبطون كهلان الذين ملكوا وسادوا في اليمن كما ذكر العرب الذين نصروا العقيدة المحمدية السماء والذي قال فيهم المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلام: "الإيمان يمان والحكمة يمانية". كما ذكر أنسابهم. وذكر أيضاً نبذة يسيرة من تاريخ الباطنية وأقسامها وبين فيه أفعالهم ومعتقداتهم المؤدية للإلحاد.
