هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا يتعلق بجانب من الفكر التربوي والمنهج التعليمي عند ابن الأزرق الذي كان جزءاً من المنهج التعليمي عند العرب والذي ساهم وما زال يساهم في الجانب الأعظم من بناء القيم والأخلاق والإتجاهات الثقافية لأجيال عربية سابقة ولاحقة.
وقد اشتمل الكتاب على مقدمة وثلاثة فصول وخاتمة وقائمة بينت المصادر والمراجع المختلفة، فالفصل الأول اهتم بحياة ابن الأزرق من ولادته حتى وفاته مروراً بإسمه ولقبه ونشأته وشيوخه وطلابه، ورحلاته ووظائفه، أما الفصل الثاني فقد تناول الفكر التربوي ومنابعه وإبراز هذا الفكر لأنه يشكل القاعدة الأساسية للمنهج التربوي والتعليمي، احتوى منابع الفكر التربوي والتعليمي.
فضلاً عن ذلك تناول الفصل التربية والتعليم وعلاقتهما بالعمران البشري عند ابن الأزرق والصنائع وتعليمها، أما الفصل الثالث والأخير فقد ضم المنهج التعليمي العام وأسس منظمة المنهج والعوامل المؤثرة فيه عند ابن الأزرق والأمكنة والمؤسسات التعليمية من الرباط والزوايا والمدارس في منهجه.
