هذا الكتاب هو الثاني في سلسلة العبور الحضاري للمكتبة الإسلامية" وهو يدور حول "شخصية" "كعب الأحبار" التابعي الذي عدّ من أوائل الملفين في المكتبة العربية الإسلامية وهو آخر سند في كثير من الروايات المتصلة وبخاصة فضائل الأماكن المقدسة. وكعب تابعي أسلم بعد أن كان يهودياً، وقد أتيحت له ظروف خاصة جعلت منه معلماً ومتعلماً في الوقت ذاته، وجعلت منه رقيباً على حركات يهود وما توسوس به نفوسهم في عهد كانت الحضارة الإسلامية تجتاح فيه الثقافات والحضارات أمامها، وكان له فضل دخول الكثيرين منهم في الدين الإسلامي، وفي الوقت ذاته جعلت منه رقيباً على حياة الصحابة والتابعين رضوان الله تعالى عليهم. والمؤلف الذي بين أيدينا سلط الأضواء على سيرة كعب، ويعقد موازنات بين كعب الأحبار بصفته يهودياً أسلم في الماضي وبين محمد أسد بصفته يهودياً أسلم في القرن العشرين، وذلك لتلمس خط السير الواحد الذي تنحوه مثل هذه الشخصيات في المجتمع المسلم بعد أن تكون قد فارق عقائد آبائها وأجدادها. ثم عقد موازنات بين كعب الأحبار وشخصيات يهودية أسلمت فحسُن إسلامها مثل عبد الله بن سلام؛ وبينه وبين شخصيات يهودية أسلمت فلم يُحسن إسلامها كعبد الله بن سبأ الذي مثّل دور البطولة من وجهة النظر اليهودية في الفتنة الكبرى التي انتهت بمقتل الخليفة الراشد عثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه.
