مؤسس فرقة التراث ولد عام (1918) في مدينة حلب ظهرت موهبته في الثانية عشرة من عمره، وأشرف على تعليمه وتدريبه الأستاذ المرحوم عمر البطش الذي تطوّع لتعليم ذلك الفتى الموهوب، وأعطاه كل أصول الغناء والموشحات.
أدّى أعمالاً كثيرة للإذاعة حين افتتاحها، ثم اعتزل العمل الإذاعي، وأسس فرقة المدائح النبوية، وهو أول من أدخل الإيقاع "الدف" على الإنشاد، وأعطى كل إهتمامه للفرقة ولحّن ما يقارب الــ 40 لحناً وهي اليوم الأكثر تداولاً بين المنشدين في سوريا والدول العربية، واشتهر بالغناء المرتجل والأسلوب السهل الممتنع.
