هذا الكتاب لمؤلفه أبي المعالي محمد بن محمد إبراهيم الكلباسي أو الكرباسي نسبه إلى (حوض كرباس) العالم الرباني والمحقق المتبحر، وقد جمع في الرسائل الرجالية مؤلفاته في علمي الدراية والرجال، ولخص فيها كل ما يحتاج إليه المجتهد أو المحقق مما لم يلتفت إليه العلماء السابقون واللاحقون. وقد اعتمد أسلوب البحث والتقصي، فلم يغفل شاردة أو واردة، وعمد إلى المبهم فبينه وذكر معناه.
واصل الكتاب في نسختين خطيتين النسخة الأولى في مخطوطة في مكتبة جامعة طهران، والثانية مخطوطة مكتبة ملك بطهران، وقد اعتمد عليهما المحقق في عمله. فوضح مبهمهما وفتح مغلقهما وحل مختصراتها، وبعد أن تم له مقابلة النسخة المصفوفة بالنسخة الأصلية عند إلى استخراج جميع الآيات والروايات وأقوال العلماء من مصادرها الأصلية المعتبرة، ومن ثم عمد إلى تقويم النص وتصحيح المتن من الأخطاء العلمية والإملائية والنحوية والصرفية وزود الكتاب بفهرس للموضوعات وفهارس أخرى.
