الأهوار واحدة مـن بيئات الأرض وأمكنتها المتميـزة، ولـدت منذ أزل سحيق نتـاج التغيرات الـجيولوجية العظمى التي تعرض لها كوكب الأرض منذ ملايين السنيين، ولأننا عرفنا وقرأنا الكثير عن الفرضيات والنظريات التي تحدثت عن أصل الأمكنة وولادتها فإننا في سياقات العلم والتاريخ ندرك.. ونظراً لما تعرضت له الأهوار من حملة تجفيف في أقسى عمليات القسر البيئي وما صاحبها من تغيرات ديموغرافية وطوبغرافية وجيولوجية. لهذا كله يعمد العراق اليوم إلى تطويره وإعادة تأهيله في ذات الإتجاه والرؤية من أجل العمل على إعادة المكان إلى طبيعته التي تعوّد العيش فيها منذ أقدم العصور.
