اقترحت خبرتي المهنية كمصمم وباحث ومعلم أن الحوار بين المصمم والمستخدم النهائي وأصحاب المصلحة المرتبطين أمر بالغ الأهمية لتنمية المنتجات الفعالة والإقتصادية.
البحث الذي أبلغت عنه هنا هو تحليل منهجي لهذا الفهم، أولاً، أجريت مراجعة للأدبيات التي أثبتت أنه لا يوجد أي معنى معياري لمصطلح "الحوار".
أبرز إستعراض الأدبيات تحديات الخيارات المنخفضة للإتصال من خلال القيود المركبة للثقافة واللغة والإنحطاط، قمت بعد ذلك بإجراء تحليل محتوى موجز على عشرين دراسة حالة لتحديد وتعريف المصطلحات ونقاط للنظر في الحوار التعاوني بين المصممين والأشخاص الذين يحتاجون إلى تقنيات مساعدة.
أدى هذا التحليل إلى تطوير تصنيف لأنساق الإتصالات التي تتوافق مع مدخلات حسية محددة، وقد تم تصميمها لعمل كأداة تصميم تجريبي، من بين 41 صيغة محددة، تم إستخدام حوالي الثلثين في الأدبيات التي تمت مراجعتها.
والجدير بالذكر أن أكثر من نصف الدراسات استخدمت ما يزيد عن ربع الأشكال، تتطلب تعاريف الحوار والتصميم الإسترشادي الذي طرحته في هذه مزيداً من النقاش والتنقيح ليكونا فعالين لتطبيقات أوسع.
