يُجيبُ هذا الكتابُ عن سؤالين؛ مَن نحن؟ وماذا نريد أن نكون؟ فالإجابة عنهما تُوضّح لنا فلسفتنا الاجتماعية الشَاملة، وفلسفتنا التَّربوية الواضحة المنبثقة عنها. إن الفلسفة التَّربوية الواضحة المنبثقة عن فلسفة اجتماعيَّة شاملة، أي عن تصوُّر مُتكامل لحقائق الألوهيَّة، والكون والإنسان، والحياة، هي بداية أي إصلاح اجتماعي، فضلا عن أن يكون هذا الإصلاحُ متَّصلاً بعملية حاسمة في بناء البَشَر، وبناء المجتمع الإنساني كالتَّربية والتَّعليم.
لقد تبيَّن بالبحث العلمي أن وطنَنا العربيَّ يُعاني من اضطراب في الدّماغ المُغَّذّي للعملية التَّربوية بكاملها، ونعني بذلك تَغيب الفلسفة الاجتماعيَّة، وغياب الفلسفة التَّربويَّة النَجمة عنها. ومن ذلك الغياب حَدَثَ اضطراب في السّياسات التَّعليميَّة، ومن ثم في الأهداف، والإستراتيجيَّات، والخُطط والبرامج، والمناهج.... إلَخ.
وقد جاء هذا الكتاب ضمن سلسلة "أساسيات" التي تأتي كاستجابة حضاريّة لمتطَلبات العصر ذي الإيقاع السَّريع، وتلبية صادقة لاحتياجات طُلاب الجامعات، وتلاميذ المدارس، والمثقَّفين والمتخصّصين، والكُتَّاب... ممن يحتاجون إلى الإلمام بأساسيَّات المعرفة في موضوع بعينه، دونما إغراق في التعمُّق، أو سطحيّة في التناول.
