والكتاب يلقي الضوء على دور غاندي في نشر ثقافة اللاعنف والتسامح فضلا عن جهده في تدعيم قيم المحبة والتعاون والسلام وغيرها من القيم الراقية بين مختلف فئات الشعب الهندي، ذلك أن حياة غاندي اشتملت مبادئ سامية وقيماً إنسانية نادى بها وناضل من أجلها وكافح في سبيل تحقيقها، والتي اتفق فيها القول مع الفعل‘ إذ كان الحق واللاعنف هما مبدآ المهاتما غاندي باستمرار.
من ثمّ لم يكن غريباً أن يكون لحياته تأثير كبير في نفوس كثيرين، ليس ممن عاصروه وعاش بينهم فحسب، بل من هم خارج الهند، في آسيا وأوروبا وأفريقيا والأميركيتين، بل ومن خارج عصره أيضاً، حيث انتقلت آراؤه وانتشرت أفكاره عبر الزمان والمكان لتصبح أفكاراً عالمية لها قيمتها ومكانتها وتقديرها.
