يحتل مفهوم المقام صدارة اهتمام الدارسين في حقل التواصل وتحليل الخطاب . فمن خلاله تناولوا بالتفسير والتعليل تارة ، وبالوصف والتشريح تارة أخرى ، مختلف قضايا التواصل الجمالي ( البليغ ) واليومي ( العادي ) المستشكلة قديماً وحديثاً . ولذلك فإن الباحث في علاقة المقام بالتواصل يجد نفسه في قلب إستشكالات متداخلة ومتشابكة وقضايا متفرعة ومتشعبة . تبدأ بالمفردة المعجمية وتنتهي بالنوع الكلامي أو الأدبي مروراً بالجملة والنص . وتصل بين عوالم سيميائية متباينة ، لفظية وخطية وبصرية ، مما يطرح صعوبات وعواق في التصنيف والتبويب ، وفي التفسير والتسويغ ، إضافة إلى صعوبات في الوصل بين المفاهيم المتعددة والمتباينة .
وبقدر ما يدعو هذا الباحث إلى الإحتراز والتمحيص ، يفرض عليه فتح نافذة البحث على حقول معرفية متعددة ، متقاربة أحياناً ومتباعدة أحياناً أخرى ، تتسع دائرتها لتشمل كافة جوانب تفاعلات الفرد مع نفسه ، ومع الآخرين ومع العالم أو محيطه عبر الأزمنة المختلفة : ماضياً وحاضراً ومستقبلاً . فالمعرفة المقامية تخترق قضايا وموضوعات شتى ، وأسهمت في تشكيلها وتنظيمها مباحث معرفية مختلفة قبل أن تفصل فيها الدراسات اللسانية الحديثة والتداوليات ، كالأنثروبولوجيتا ، والسوسيولوجيا ، والبسيكولوجيا ، والسيميولوجيان ، والنقد الأدبي ، والهيرمينوطيقا ، والفينومينولوجيا ، وفلسفة اللغة ، وغيرها .
لذا انفتحت هذه الدراسة على تصورات متعددة وأحياناً متباينة ، بتباين مرجعياتها الفكرية وخلفياتها النظرية . ولم يكن هذا التعدد والتباين عائقاً يحول دون تفكيك بنية المقام ورصد تمفصلاتها الكبرى واستكشاف آليات تشكيلها ، بل مكننا من فهم الأسئلة الحقيقية التي أفرزت المعرفة المقامية في هذه التصورات ومباحثها المعرفية ، ذلك أن قضايا المقام شكّلت الخيط الرابط بين هذه التصورات والناظم لمواضيعها والخالق لأسئلتها .
