تاريخ الضحك تاريخُ الإنسانية، تاريخُ الحضارة، ولذلك كان البوابة التي طرقها الفلاسفة لبناء الدولة (المثالية، المدنية، الديمقراطية، التقدمية، العادلةِ...) تارةً، ولبناء الفكر تارةً أخرى، وللغوص في النفس البشرية تارةً ثالثة، وهكذا.
ولعل في هذا بعضَ التسويغ لقولنا "فلسفات الأخلاق"، إذ الجدل الإتيقي حول غائية الإضحاك وعلِّيَةِ الضحك شَغَلَ الدارسين والفلاسفةَ في تخصصات عدة وقضايا فكرية وفلسفية مختلفة...
تباينت الرؤى واختلفت التقديرات والتقييمات حول دور الهزل في بناء القيم الأخلاقية والحفاظ عليها، والظاهر أن جزءاً من هذا الإختلاف يرتد إلى تباين فهم الدارسين للأخلاق ووظيفتها في المجتمعات البشرية.
كما يرتد جزء آخر منه إلى الطبيعة الإستشكالية للضحك والهزل، فالسؤال الأخلاقي معقد ومستشكل على إمتداد تاريخ البحث الفلسفي، ففي دائرة الأخلاق تتقاطع قضايا الإنسان مُجْتَمِعَةً ومتفرقةً، يتداخل فيها الغريزي والعقلي، الخاص والعام، الثابت والمتغير، المادي والروحي، وغير ذلك.
ومن جانب آخر فإن الهزل يمتلك قدرة عجيبة على التأثير والإقناع إلى درجة أنه قادر على تعزيز العلاقات الإجتماعية وتقويتها وعلى تخريبها وتدميرها في الآن نفسه.
فالضحك يختزل جل الأسئلة الوجودية التي تعيد النظر في الحقيقة الإنسانية وتتقصى إمكانات البقاء والهيمنة والتَميُّز، وتبحث في موقع الإنسان في الكون ومصيره داخل السيرورة التاريخية.
ومهما تباينت التفسيرات والتسويغات وتفرعت مذاهب الأخلاق وفلسفاتها في مقاربة الهزل وكشف وجوه علاقته بالأخلاق والقيم؛ فإنها جميعها محكومة برؤيتين فلسفيتين كبريين؛ رؤية تجديدية ثورية تناصر الهزل وتدافع عن الحق في الضحك سبيلاً للدفاع عن الحق في التفكير، ورؤية تُنَابِذُ الهزلَ وتُعَادِيه وتدعو إلى لَفْظِه وأبعاده من الحياة العامة والخطابات الإبداعية سبيلاً لتوفير الإحتماء وتحقيق الإستقرار وإستمرار الجنس البشري.
