لا يمكننا تناول مسائل "التفكيك" دون العبور أولاً من طريق "البنيوية"، وهو طريق قطع فيه النقدُ العربي شوطاً لا بأس به على مستوى التعرُّف والتطبيق، وإعتماداً على وفرة المعرفة العربية بالبنيوية فقد جاء القسم الأول بمقاليه ليغطي بعض النقص فيها من جهة الأصل التاريخي وتطوره ("بنيوية مدرسة براغ")، أما المقال الآخر فيسلط الضوء على شخصية مراوغة ومؤثرة في تاريخ نظرية النقد الأدبي الفرنسي الحديث ألا وهي ("رولان بارت")، على إعتبار أنه الشخصية التي تمثل خير تمثيل المشهد الفرنسي في تحوله الصارخ والعنيف من "البنيوية" إلى "التفكيك".
أما الغرض من القسم الثاني في هذا الكتاب فهو أمران: الأول إلقاء بعض الضوء على الطابع العام لأفكار بول دي مان وإنشغالاته في مرحلة الشباب قبل لقائه بجاك دَريدا بأكثر من عشرات سنوات، من خلال مقاله ("وجه الرمزية المزدوج") الذي كتبه في النصف الأول من الخمسينيات تقريباً.
ولعل فيما يعرضه ريتشارد رورتي - وينتقده - بخصوص دي مان التفكيكي (القسم الثالث - "التفكيك") توضيحاً لمقدار ما طرأ على هذا المُنَظِّر البلجيكي الأمريكي من تحول أو تطور كبير.
وفي المقال الثاني من هذا القسم نتعرَّف إلى شيء من طبيعة الجدل والسجال النقدي الناشئ بين الماركسيين (وما بعد الماركسيين) من جهة والتفكيكيين من جهة أخرى، وما يترتب عليه من حلول بخصوص إشكالية التعامل مع ثنائية ("النص والعالم").
ويتوفر القسم الثالث بكامله - وهو أكبر أقسام الكتاب - على التعريف بإستراتيجية التفكيك وما تثيره من إشكالات وإشتباكات مع مجمل التراث الفلسفي اليوناني الغربي، مع بعض من الإنتقادات التي يقدمها رورتي بصفة خاصة.
