لقد قصرنا دراستنا هنا على تلك الموضوعات التي تعد مقدمة لدراسة القرآن ولهذا فقد تضمن القسم الأكبر من فصول الكتاب مجموعة من الأبحاث التي لا بد من الإلمام بها قبل دراسة النص القرآني.
ولقد أشرنا في باب إعجاز القرآن إلى عدد من القضايا البلاغية والأدبية، كما أننا في دراستنا للنصوص القرآنية أشرنا أيضاً إلى الكثير من تلك القضايا.
لقد حاولنا أن نجنب القارئ كثيراً من المتاهات التي امتلأت بها كتب القدامى، وأن نستخرج مما ذهب إليه علماء السلف أقوم الآراء وأكثرها استناداً إلى التراث الإسلامي الصحيح.
وفي الكتاب تفسير لبعض النصوص القرآنية أفدنا فيه من جهود المفسرين القدماء، وحاولنا به أن نصور مذاهبهم في فهم النص القرآني، ثم أضفنا إلى كل ذلك ما عن لنا من آراء، على ضوء مات فهمناه، ورأينا أنه يزيد النص وضوحاً، وقد ألحقنا بالكتاب أمثلة من أعمال المفسرين صورنا بها مناهجهم في التفسير.
