وعلاوة على التغييرات والتطورات الهائلة التي طرأت في حقل الرياضيات، كانت هناك النظريات التربوية تنظيماً مبنياً على مراحل تطور النمو الفكري للمتعلم، بالإضافة إلى التنظيم المنطقي لمحتوى مادة الرياضيات ذاتها، وقد أوصت هذه النظريات التربوية بتبني وسائل وأساليب حديثة في التدريس والتقليل من إتباع وإعتماد الطرق التقليدية والعشوائية.
يجيء هذا الكتاب منسجماً مع النظرة الحديثة للرياضيات، وتنظيم المنهاج حسب ما أوصت به اللجان والمؤتمرات المتخصصة عالمياً وعربياً.
وقد تناول الفصل الاول والثاني والثالث طبيعة الرياضيات وخصائصها ، تنظيم مناهج الرياضيات، مبادئ ومعايير الرياضيات المدرسية. الفصل الرابع تناول اراء كببار التربويين وعلماء النفس في نظيات التعلم، الفصل الخامس تناول استراتيجيات التدريس بصورة عامة، الفصل السادس والسابع والثامن والتاسع والعاشر تناول تصنيف المعرفة الرياضية الى مفاهيم، وتعميمات، ومهارات، ومسائل تصنيفا عمليا وقابلا للتطبيق في مجال تنظيم المحتوى الرياضي للمنهاج ووضع الاهداف التدريسية على المستويات المختلفة، والاشارة الى نتائج بعض البحوث والدرسات فيما يتعلق بافضل الوسائل والطرق لتدريس اصناف المعرفة الرياضية، الفصل الحادي عشر تناول تقويم تعلم الطلبة للرياضيات، من خلال اعداد اختبارات تحصيل تشتمل على اسئلة من مختلف الانواع.
