كتاب "الأفخارستيا" إنجازّ توّج أعمال الأب الكسندر شميمن، فهو يجعلنا نتذوق خبرة حياة هذا اللاهوتي الكبير وندرك نظرته وفكره حول القدّاس الآلهي، هذا العمل المحوري للكنيسة الذي يسمح لها بتحقيق ذاتها.
يرى الأب شميمن أنّ "الحاجة إلى واحد"، أي إلى ما يتمّ عند إجتماع الكنيسة جسداً للمسيح لدخول الملكوت السماوي، والصعود إلى السماوات، والجلوس إلى مائدة الرب في ملكوته.
وحتى "نقرأ" خدمة القدّاس الآلهي في شكل صحيح، علينا التعاطي معه كخدمة واحدة متكاملة، لذا أتى كلّ من فصول الكتاب وفق تبويب يوافق ترتيب الخدمة الأفخارستية، تحت عنوان "سر": فهناك سر الإجتماع، وسر الدخول، وسر الكلمة الآلهية، وسر القربان، وسر الأنافورا، وسر الشكر، وسر الذِكر، وسر الروح القدس.
ويعلل المؤلف تبوييه هذا بأنّه محاولة لإبراز أهمية كل قسم من أقسام القدّاس الآلهي، ولدحض تقزيم الأفخارستيا إلى "لحظة ما" سواء كانت لحظة لفظ كلام التأسيس أو لحظة إستدعاء الروح القدس، كل قسم هو سر بحدّ ذاته، يأتي وليد الذي سبقه ويقدِّم للذي يليه.
