تميز الخوري "لويس الفغالي" عن غيره من القوالين بسرعة الخاطر والتورية والوصف الدقيق والارتجال والحدة في الرد على أي مواجهة. صاغ الزجل بمختلف أشكاله وأدخل بعض الألحان السريانية اليه. عرف بلقب "شمس الزجل"، وهذه حفنة من أجمل ما كتب.
عندما التقى "خليل سمعان الفغالي" بالقوّال "جبور أبي جابر" (البدواني) في سهرة أعدّ لها حبيب دوماني في منزله (أوّل حرش بيروت) وحضرها أكثر من خمسين شخصاً، لمناسبة عودة ابنه "وديع" من مدينة باريس حيث تلقى علومه ونال شهادة في "فن الزراعة".
وبعد مقدمات زجليّة، طلب الدوماني (الأب) من "جبور" "تحدّي" "الفغالي" من دون علم الأخير بالأمر، وجرت بين الإثنين المحاورة التالية: "جبور"... "يا بو أسعد ما يقتنع... عن غيّك ليش ما بترجع... من غير ما تصحّف جبّور... كيف لك عين تقول مطلع... من غير ما تصحّف جبّور... كيف لك عين تقول ردّي... رايح في طبع الفجور... حاجي يكفاك تُعدي... بفكرك عم بتبيع مقصور... وبين ديك مِقلد مودّي... متل بياع القدور... غير متاليك ما بتقبض...".
"الفعالي"... "دايخ يما عم تنعس... يما ساخن بالحمّي... يما من أكل القلقاس... صرت تقروش يا عمّي... انصفحتّك قدّام الناس... بخاف تطلع فيك مذمّي... مثل القدّم مشط نحاس... منشان شقطية الأقرع...".
"جبّور"... "يَهْله وبتصير تعالج... الله... يقطع فجورك... أغلب قولاتك تصبيج... وبالغصب بترقص دورك... الله يبتعتلك فالج... تانتخلّص من جَورك... تا تشوف الجالس أعوج... وتعمى وما تعاود تقشع...".
"الفغالي"... "إنكان لصلاتك تخصيص... عند الله من معروفك... صلّيلي حتى طصّص... وأعمى ما عاود شوفك... وأطلب من أجلي وخصّص... وارفع للسما كفوفك... بلكي بطرش بالخالص... وما بعود قولاتك بسمع...".
