إن علم الكونيات Cosmology يرتبط بجميع فروع العلوم والمعرفة وبخاصة علوم الفلك والطبيعة (الفيزياء) والرياضيات والدين؛ فعلم الفلك يختص بطبيعة وحركات الأجرام الكونية، وعلم الطبيعة مع الرياضيات يفسر الظواهر الكونية ويعطي القوانين التي تتحكم في حركات الإجرام والكائنات أما الأديان فتفسر نشأة الكون ومفرداته والسر في حركاتها وسكناتها.
يتكون الكتاب من قسمين؛ القسم الأول: يحتوي على بعض المواضيع العلمية التي تساعدنا على فهم الكون عامة وعلم الفلك خاصة، ومن هذه الموضوعات مثلاً طبيعة الضوء والمادة التي يتكون منها الكون والجاذبية والنسبية التي تتحكم في حركة أجزاء الكون من الذرة حتى المجرة، وقد حاول الكاتب أن يبسطها بقدر الإمكان ليقربها إلى ذهن الرجل العادي، ولكنها في نفس الوقت ليس من البساطة التي تجعلها مملة لرجل العلم.
القسم الثاني: ويحتوي على مبادئ علم الفلك حيث ابتدأ بأصغر جرم سماوي وتدرج حتى أكبر جرم سماوي، وقد أفرد أجزاء خاصة للأجرام السماوية التي تلعب دوراً كبيراً في حياة الإنسان، كالشمس والقمر والأرض، وختم هذا القسم بالكوكبات والبروج ومنازل القمر والتنجيم، وأنهى الكتاب بنظريات نشأة الكون وأبعاده.
