المرحوم أحمد الجندي في كتابه الأول والأخير "لهو الأيام" لا يؤرخ لنفسه بل يقدم صورة حقبة مديدة بألوان زاهية وبريشة محببة لا تفتئت ولا تغتاب بل تمضي على رسل الحقيقة كما عاشها صاحبها، فهو - على حد قوله - قد يكتب "ما لا يرضى عنه صاحب الفكرة أو الموضوع ولكن ما حيلتي وهو الذي صوّر نفسه كما رأيتها".
على أن ظرف الكتاب وروحه الجاحظي لا يشفعان للحقيقة المرّة فحسب بل ويمنحانك أيضاً القدرة على فهم سلبية الشخص المحكي عنه والنظر إلى باعث الضيق بيسر وسماح.
"لهو الأيام" كتاب حلو في أيام مرّة حاجتها إلى هذه "الحلاوة الشامية" عظيمة.
