زكريا بن محمد بن محمود، من سلالة أنس بن مالك الأنصاري النجاري: مؤرخ، جغرافي، من القضاة.
ولد بقزوين (بين رشت وطهران) ورحل إلى الشام والعراق، فولي قضاء واسط والحلة في أيام المستعصم العباسي.
وصنف كتبا، منها (آثار البلاد وأخبار العباد - ط) في مجلدين، و (خطط مصر - خ) و (عجائب المخلوقات - ط) ترجم
إلى الفارسية والألمانية والتركية

مصنف هذا الكتاب و "زكريا بن محمد بن محمود القزويني" يرجع بنسبه إلى أنس بن مالك إمام المدينة وفقيهها المشهور. وُلد في قزوين وإليها نسب، ثم رحل إلى دمشق وهو شاب، وتولى بعدئذ قضاء واسط والحلة في زمن المستعصم العباسي، آخر خلفاء بنيا لعباس، في بغداد، وسقطت بغداد في يد هولاكو المغولي، وهو في ذاك المنصب. كان عالماً في التاريخ والجغرافية، وآثاره كانت كلها تتصل بعلم الجغرافية ووصف الكائنات، وكتابه هذا "آثار البلاد وأخبار العباد" يساوي من قيمته كتابه "عجائب المخلوقات" فقد جمع فيه، كل ما وقع له وعرفه وسمع به وشاهده من لطائف صنع الله وعجائب حكمته المودعة في بلاده وعباده.
بدأ فيه الكلام على الحاجة الداعية إلى إحداث المدن والقرى، ثم أخذ يصف المدن التي عرفها في بلاد العرب والفرس والروم والفرنجة، ويذكر تاريخ بناء المدن التي يعرف تاريخ بنائها، ويذكر ما حدث فيها من أمور، ويبيّن أن لكل قطعة من الأرض خاصّة لا توجد في غيرها، وأن الجواهر الكريمة تتولد عن الحجارة الصلبة، والزروع من الطين، وتكلم على الإنسان فقال أنه حيوان متساوي الآحاد في الحدّ والحقيقية. وإنما يختلف كل واحد عن الآخر إمّا بعلمه أو بصنعته أو بتعبّده.
