سالت دموع المطر... كأنما الشتاء راح يبكي على الصيف الذاهب وشمسه ودفئه... والثلوج حجرت هذه الدموع فأصبحت لؤلؤاً منثوراً على صفحة خدود الزجاج... والريح عوت عواء الذئب... الكاسر... وكم هزت أبواب دورنا وشبابيكنا هزة النقمة والحقد... وكشرت عن أنيابها غضبا... فلماذا غضبت علينا يا ثلوج... وأنت بيضاء القلب... واليد... ورمز الطهارة والسلام... قهقه البرق... ضاحكاً من العاصفة. وأطلقت الرعود صواعقها... فارتجت المنازل والأرض واضطربت القلوب هلعاً وخوفاً من سقوط هذه الصواعق على رؤسنا ورؤوس قراميدنا... فارأفي بنا يا ثلوج". من واقع الحياة الاجتماعية في الريف يكتب رياض المعلوف نصوص كتابة "ريفيات" مصوراً بأبي الكلمات نصوصاً قاسمها المشترك حياة الريف البسيطة والمفعمة بالحياة، وكما هي الحياة في الريف ببساطتها وعفويتها أتت نصوصه تنبض بالحياة والحب متنقلة بين الازدهار والرياح والثلوج والفراشات والغيوم والنسمات.
