روى أحمد في مسنده والحاكم والبيهقي والبزار وغيرهم عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "إنما بعثتُ لأتمم مكارم الأخلاق"، وعند مالك في الموطأ بلاغاً "بعثتُ لأتمم حُسن الخلُق".
هذا الحديث يرشد إلى عظيم شأن مكارم الأخلاق وحُسنها وقد ألف في ذلك الكثير من أهل العلم ومنهم الحافظ أبو بكر عبد الله الشهير بابن أبي الدنيا (ت 281هـ)، ذكر فيه جملة من الأحاديث والآثار التي تحث على التخلق بالأخلاق الحميدة، فكان إبراز هذا الكتاب محققاً عملاً فيه خدمة للتراث الإسلامي ونشراً لمحاسن الأخلاق في مجتمعنا الإسلامي والعربي، والله تعالى نسأل أن ينفع به إنه على كل شيء قدير.
