أصدر ما يزيد عن مئة كتاب بين تأليف وترجمة عن الفرنسية والإنكليزية منها:

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم "لكل أمة أمين، وأمين هذه الأمة أبو عبيدة بن الجراح" وقال عبد الله بن عمرو بن العاصي:"أَصبَحُ الناسِ وجوهاً وأحسنهم خلقاً وأشدهم حياءً ثلاثة: أبو بكر وعثمان وأبو عبيدة". وعندما قدم عمر بن الخطاب إلى الشام، تلقاه أمراء الأجناد وعظماء أهل الأرض، فقال عمر"يأتيك الآن"! فجاء أبو عبيدة على ناقة محفوفة بحبل، فسلم عليه، فقال عمر للناس"."انصرفوا عنا"ثم التفت إلى أبي عبيدة وقال له:" اذهب بنا إلى منزلك يا أبا عبيدة". فقال له"وما تصنع عندي يا أمير المؤمنين؟ ما تريد إلا أن تعصر عينيك عليّ! ودخل عمر فلم يرى في البيت شيئاً، إلا سيفه وترسه، فقال عمر:"فأين متاعك؟ لا أرى إلا لبداً وصفحة وشناً، والشن القربة الخلق، وأنت أمير" أعندك طعام؟" فقام أبو عبيدة ‘لى جوفه، سلة مستديرة، فأخذ منها كسيرات، فبكى عمر، فقال له أبو عبيدة! قلت لك إنك ستقصى عينيك عليّ يا أمير المؤمنين! يكفيك من الزاد ما بلغ المحل!! "فقال:عمر:"غيرتنا الدنيا كلنا غيرك يا أبا عبيدة"!
عرف الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم فيه نموذجاً للإيمان، ومثالاً للإسلام، وعرف فيه أيضاً خصائص وطباعاً وعرفها في غيره، كالإخلاص والتجدد والصدق والأمانة وغيرها من الفضائل، وكان المسلمون من تلاميذ مدرسة الإسلام كلها نماذج في هذه الفضائل، فكان ظهوره عليهم إنما يعني أنه فوق الفضائل كلها. ولهذا أحبه الرسول وقربه وأطلق عليه "أمين الأمة" ذلك هو "أبو عبيدة بن الجراح" الذي سار في طريق الإسلام منذ بدايته والذي تدور حوله هذه القصة التي تبرز صفاته بصدق ودون مواربة، بأسلوب قصصي شيق، وبلغة سهلة، وذلك بغاية وضع هذه الشخصية بإطار محبب للناشئ، ليفني فكره وعقله ونفسه بسير الشجعان من مشاهيره قادة الإسلام.
