إن أسماءه سبحانه وتعالى تحتوي من الأسرار والمعاني ما لا يحيط به مخلوق وإن الإطلاع على أسماءه سبحانه والتأمل في معانيها وأسرارها ومداومة ذكرها, والدعاء والتوسل بها مما يزيد العبد قرباً من الله تبارك وتعالى, ويسمو به إلى مقامات المعرفة. وطريق معرفة معاني أسماءه سبحانه وتعالى هو نصوص القرآن والسنة وما يفتح الله سبحانه وتعالى به على عقول وإفهام أهل المعرفة. وإن هذا الكتاب مع صغر حجمه- حوى من الأسرار والفوائد ما لا تجده في غيره, وذلك لتمكن حال مؤلفه الذي قال عنه العلامة عبد الرؤوف المناوي رحمه الله تعالى: (عابد من بحر الغيب يغترف, وعالم بالولاية يتصف).
وبالنظر لأهمية هذا الكتاب فقد اعتنى "محمود بيروتي" بتحقيقه فقام بـ أولاً: ضبط الكلمات والعبارات المشكلة بالشكل، ثانياً: خرج الآيات بذكر اسم السورة ورقم الآية، كما وخرج الأحاديث الشريفة، وإضافة بعض الشواهد المناسبة. ثالثاً: ترجم للأعلام الواردة أسماؤهم في الكتاب وشرح بعض الكلمات والعبارات التي تحتاج إلى شرح، ووضع بعض التعليقات المفيدة. رابعاً: قدم للكتاب بترجمة وافية للمؤلف رحمه الله.
أبو العباس, أحمد بن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى الشهاب البرنسي المغربي الفاسي المالكي, المعروف بزروق, وزروق لقب جده, كان بعينه زرقة, فقالوا: زروق, فسرت في عقبه.البرنسي- نسبة الى قبيلة من البربر بين فاس وتازا. ولد بفاس في المحرم من سنة ست وأربعين وثمانمائة, مات أبوه قبل تمام أسبوعه, فنشأ يتيماً, وتولى تربيته جدته لأمه, وكانت من الصالحات الطاهرات, وحفظ القرآن وعدة كتب. ومن أهم مؤلفاته: شرح الحكم العطائية, شرح القرطبية في فقه المالكية, شرح حزب البحر للشاذلي, وغيرها من المؤلفات كثير. توفي سنة (899) هجرية, ودفن في زاويته بمصراتة في ليبيا.
