خرج علينا منظرو المحافظين الجدد الذين تزعمهم في البيت الأبيض جورج دبليو بوش بنتظرياتهم الأخيرة التي زعموا فيها وبجلاء عن صدام الحضارات لصاموئيل هنتنجتون ونهاية التاريخ وخاتم البشر لفوانسيس فوكوياما، وادعوا من خلال أن الحضارة الغربية من خلال تفوقها خلال القرون الثلاثة الماضية جديرة بأن تكون الحضارة المسيطرة، وأنها تمثل نقطة النهاية في التطور والشكل النهائي للحكم في العالم، وبالتالي فهي تمثل نهاية التاريخ، وأن الحضارة والثقافة الغربية وبارتباط واضح مع القوة الغربية وبتأثير منها فإنها ستشكل المجتامعات غير الغربية، ويرى هنتنجتون أن الاستعمار هو النتيجة المنطقية الضرورية للعالمية ويرى أن مأزق الحضارة الغربية والغرب هو كونها في حالة نضج، ربما المقصود أنها وصلت عإلى مرحلة الشيخوخة، بحيث لم تعد لديه الدينامية الاقتصادية أو الديموغرافية المطلوبة لفرض إرادته على المجتمعات الأخرى فضلاً عن أن ذلك سيتناقض مع ما يسمى ب القيم الغربية التي عادة ما نقرأها بالكتب الداعائية ووسائل الإعلام دون أن نراها تمارس قط على أرض الواقع فيما يتعلق بالشعوب غير الغربية، خاصة ما يسمى بتقرير المصير والحرية والديموقراطية.
