أخذ الاهتمام بالمنهج وعملياته المتمثلة في التخطيط والتنظيم والتنفيذ والتقييم والتطوير يحظى في السنوات الأخيرة من هذا القرن باهتمام متزايد من قبل جميع الأطراف المؤثرة بالعملية التربوية، نظراً لإدراك هذه الأطراف لأهمية الدور الذي يضطلع به المنهج في تشكيل شخصيات الناشئة العقلية والجسمية والنفسية والاجتماعية مما يسهل عملية تكيفهم مع متطلبات حياتهم الحاضرة والمستقبلية بكل ما يعتورها من تغيرات.
فالمنهج يعد خطة مهمة للمعلم والمتعلم على حد سواء، فهو من جهة يساعد المعلمين على تنظيم عملية التعليم وتوفير الشروط المناسبة لنجاحها، وهو من جهة أخرى يساعد المتعلمين على التعلم المتمثل في بلوغ الأهداف التربوية المراد تحقيقها. وإن هذا المؤلف أعد ليكون مصدراً مفيداً لجميع المهتمين بالمناهج من معلمين ومتعلمين. ولقد رتبت فصول هذا الكتاب ترتيباً منطقياً حيث ذم هذا الكتاب ثمانية فصول، فبدأت بالمفاهيم والتي اشتملت على الخلفية النظرية، والمستوى الاجتماعي والمستوى المؤسسي والمستوى التدريسي والإداري.
أما الفصل ا لثاني فقد هدف إلى معرفة صنع القرار في المناهج المدرسية حيث تطرق إلى مجالي التربية والوحدة الإشرافية والمعلمين والإداريين ودورهم في صنع القرار في بناء المنهج الدراسي. أما الفصل الثالث وفيه تمت مناقشة مستويات صنع القرار على المستوى الاجتماعي والمؤسسي والتدريسي فضلاً عن دور المعلم والمشرف التربوي ومدير المدرسة في صنع القرار.
وفي الفصل الرابع تطرق المؤلف إلى معايير وتقييم المناهج الدراسية، ولمزيد من الواقعية التي ينشدها المؤلف فقد اقتصر في الفصل الخامس على مناقشة أنواع المناهج المدرسية. وفي الفصل السادس فقد اشتمل على مجموعة من الأمثلة من الواقع التربوي والتدريس، وفي الفصل السابع تطرق المؤلف إلى بعض المعوقات التي تواجه بناء المنهج المدرسي. والفصل الثامن تطرق المؤلف إلى تصميم المنهج الدراسي الجامعي.
