بين الوقوف على حافة الفشل والإصرار على النجاح تتموضع رواية (هدباء) للشاعر والروائية المهندسة حنان القطان، فهاتان الواقعتان تشكلات البداية والنهاية النصيتين، وبينهما نص روائي حافل بالمفاجآت، عن امرأة، تمتلك القدرة على الإستقطاب، إستقطاب كل من حولها، وتحويلهم إلى أداة، لكي تنجح، بعدما ذاقت مرارة الأيام.
بطلة الرواية (هدباء) كانت ضحية الفقر والقمع والعادات والتقاليد، غير أنها تحمل داخلها بذور الثورة والتمرد، بعد توقف نع الدراسة، وزواج وترمل تعود إلى الجامعة وتتابع، لتلتقي بالحب مرة أخرى، وتحقق ما كانت تصبو إليه حتى تقلدت منصباً رفيعاً في سفارة بلدها الأم في الخارج.
تقول الكاتبة حنان القطان عن عملها هذا: "أسميتها بهذا الإسم؛ لأنها تميزت بطول وكثافة أهدابها السوداء برغم أنها كانت ذات شعر ذهبي... استبدلت اسمها الحقيقي بإسم مستعار وغيرتُ تفاصيل صغيرة؛ لأنطلق في فضاء دون قيود.
هدباء كانت الصبية الخامسة لأسرة مكونة من سبع فتيات وخمسة فتية، أسرتها كانت كثيرة الأفراد وقليلة الدخل، ضيعتهم المتواضعة تقغ في مكان شبه ناء في أعلى جبل لبنان، هناك يقبع بيتهم الصغير ملاصقاً لبيوت أخرى ومزارع متناثرة ومدارس معدودة متهالكة...
هدباء هي محور الرواية، كانت جميلة الشكل كأخواتها، لكنها الوحيدة التي كانت شقراء بأهداب سوداء أنبوسية، تملك عينين عسليتين واسعتين وقامة طويلة ممشوقة، لم تنتبه هدباء لحسنها إلاّ حين كبرت وأنيعت أنوثتها فرأت إنعكاس نضوجها في أعين الرجال من حولها.
تبلغ هدباء السابعة والأربعين من العمر حالياً وقد تعرفتُ على شخصها الكريم في إحدى زياراتي لبيروت.
لا أعلم حقيقة لمَ شاركتني تلك المرأة قصتها؟ ولمَ كشفت لي أسرارها؟... أسرار دفنتها زمناً طويلاً، جذبتني تلك الإنسانة، شدتني منعطفات حياتها وتقلباتها، فآثرت سرد قصتها لكل أنثى...".
