ثيمات عدة، تبرز في قصائد الشاعر عبد الرحمن كمال لطفي في مجموعته المعنونة "نخب رأس المعتصم" ومنها: الغربة، والصمت، والحزن، والموت، والمرأة وغيرها، وقد أتقن الشاعر استحضار الحدث (السوري) المعاصر في النص ليشكل منه علامة فنية خاصة، يطرح من خلاله قضايا بلاده وأوجاعها ويفضح أعداءها مع تسييس نسبي لبعض قصائد المجموعة، وجعلها في مستوى المتلقي من حيث الطرح والفكرة، معتنياً بالأسلوبية، المتسمة بالصنعة الشعرية الدقيقة، والزخرفة الفنية بذهنية عالية ووعي شعري خاص.
قدم للمجموعة الطبيب الشاعر وليد عارف الرشيد الحراكي، ومما جاء فيها: "... هذه المجموعة الشعرية تميزت بالحس القومي والوطني العالي والنفس الحر الرافض للذل والخضوع، كما أنها تنوعت من حيث الشكل والأسلوب ما بين قصائد طوال ومقطوعات قصيرة وما بين شعر عمودي وشعر تفعيلة، وما بين قصائد تتغنى بالوطن والثورات العربية وبين الحكمة والحبّ والتذمر من واقع عربي أليم، وكان القاسم المشترك بين كل هذا جمال السبك وقوة وجزالة التركيب وصدق الإحساس والمشاعر...".
في القصيدة التي يخاطب بها الشاعر مدينته حماة والمعنونة بــ "حماة / لن ننسى شهداءنا" يقول: "نُوحَي على ماضٍ تولى مُوجعاً... أدمى الفؤاد وناعياً ما قد نعى"... "نُوحي نواعير الأباةِ وزغردي... بخرير مائك للشهيد مشيقا"... "إن جاس زنديقٌ بأرضِ أبي الفدا... سفك الدماء مروعاً ما روعَا"... "يَومٌ مضى واليومَ ثورةٌ شعبتَا... حتماً بإذن الله نصراً أنيقا".
يضم الكتاب خمسة وثلاثون قصيدة شعرية تتراوح بين الشعر العربي الموزون والمقفى والشعر العربي الحديث جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: 1-هيام فبوح فوصال، 2-يا سارياً لربوع الشام، 3-قاسيون ضيفٌ على قبلةِ الشعراء (الباحة)، 4-الله ربك راحمٌ ومقدرُ، 5-اعلنتُ إحتلالي، 6-في ضيعتنا قرد، 7-يا شام إني في هواك متيم... وعناوين أخرى.
