إن الغرض من هذا الكتاب بيان الفلسفة الأولى, ومباحثها, والفرق بينها وبين العلم الرياضي من جهة, والعلم الطبيعي من جهة أخرى. وقد بين في بداية الكتاب أنه أراد من علمه إصابة الحق, وفي علمه العمل بالحق. ويرى أن أشرف الفلسفة هي علم الحق الأول الذي هو علة كل حق. وتناول مجموعة أبحاث فقد تطرق إلى حدّ الفلسفة, وتكلم عن العلل, ووفق بين الفلسفة والدين وثم انتقل إلى تقسيم الوجود الإنساني إلى قسمين: الوجود الحسي والوجود العقلي. ويهاجم أرسطو في أخطر رأي وهو قدم العالم أو أزلية الأشياء. وأثبت أن الجرم نهائي وكذلك مكان والزمان والحركة كلها نهائية وذلك بأدلة رياضية. ويرى أن العقل ليس واحداً بل كثير, لأن العقل هو كليات الأشياء. فهو حين ينفي اللانهاية والوحدانية عن كل شئ, إنما يفعل ذلك لينتهي إلى الواحد الحق الذي هو الله سبحانه وتعالى.
