تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تسليط الأضــواء على مرحـلة مهمـة من تاريخ حضرموت الحديث وهي عن تاريـخ "إمارة آل بن بريــك في الشحـر ( 1165 – 1283هـ /1751 – 1866م)" وذلك من خلال دراسة أوضاعها الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والثقافية والسياسيــة..
وقد قسمت هذه الدراسـة على أربعة فصول: الأول: دراسة الخلفيـة الجغرافية والتاريخيـة لمدينة الشحـر كونها المحضن الجغرافي الذي نشأت فيه هذا الإمارة وما مرت بـه المدينة من أحداث منذ خضوعها للنفوذ الكثيـري وحتى قبيـل تأسيس الإمارة.
الثاني: تأسيس إمارة آل بن بريك سنة 1165ه ــــــ 1751م والحديث عن نسب الأسرة الحاكمـة وكيفيـة وصولهم إلى مدينة الشحر.
الثالث: تناول فيه المؤلف آخر أمراء الإمارة وهو علي بن ناجي ( الثاني ) وما اعترى عهده من تطورات سياسيـة هامة.
الرابع: الأوضاع الاجتماعية والثقافية والاقتصادية لإمارة آل بن بريك.
