ينتمي العالم المرجعي الذي تحيل إليه روايته "الهدام" للروائي موسى النقيدان تاريخياً إلى حادثة السيل التي حصلت سنة 1376هـ في السعودية، والتي كانوا يطلقون عليها في بلدة الحفرة "سنة الهدام" لكثرة ما سقط من بيوت بسبب هطول الأمطار. وقد استمرت أربعين يوماً طيلة أيام الوسم.
من هذه النافذة تطل الرواية على حياة الصحراء عبر حبكة متقنة راكم حولها النقيدان (الأحداث والوقائع) كلها، بشكل اصطاد فيه روح المكان وعلاقة البشر بالصحراء، يتمظهر ذلك في الأفعال التي تحرك شخصيات الرواية والتي حاول من خلالها الروائي أن يصور أو يفسر فهمه العميق للدوافع الغريبة والإستثنائية والمتناقضة أحياناً التي تحرك البشر في هذا المكان وتصنع مواقفهم وعلاقاتهم ببعضهم وبالسلطة وبالأرض. والتي هي في مضمونها تكريساً وحصاداً لذلك الزمن، والهدام إحداها "علي الأزرق" أحد شخصيات الرواية المثقف الساخر المحبط الذي يحضر دائماً بين كواليس الرواية ليقول شيئاً ما... هو أكثر تعبيراً عن هذا الواقع الذي ترصده الرواية.
