في ظل التحولات التي تشهدها منطقة الشرق الأوسط، والتغيرات في معادلات العلاقات الدولية والإقليمية في المنطقة، وكذلك فيما يتعلق بالصراع العربي-الإسرائيلي، أصبح إدراك بعض التفاصيل للمتغيرات السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية لدى الجانب الإسرائيلي يحظى بأهمية خاصة.
لذلك كانت هذه الدراسة المركزة حول ملامح ومكونات الاقتصاد الإسرائيلي، وهي تهدف إلى تقديم صورة عامة وعلمية عن الاقتصاد الإسرائيلي. ونظراً للتغيرات سالفة الذكر فقد ركزت الدراسة على فترة التسعينات (1992-1997) لاتخاذها قاعدة فهم واستقرار وتنبؤ مناسبة للعشر سنوات القادمة.
وتكونت هذه الدراسة التي هي السادسة في سلسلة "دراسات" من ثلاثة فصول: تحدث الفصل الأول عن آراء الاقتصاد الإسرائيلي ومكوناته أما الفصل الثاني فتحدث عن الاقتصاد الإسرائيلي وميزان المدفوعات، أما الفصل الثالث فعرض للسياسات التطلعات الإصلاحية الهيكلية، وللتطور التكنولوجي والصناعة الإسرائيلية، ولإسرائيل والسلام في الشرق الأوسط.
