(الرواق الطويل) نصوص أشبه بسيرة تناقش مفاهيم الخلود والاغتراب والتخيل، حاول عبرها "أحمد خلف" الربط بين رؤيتين حاضرة وماخية تبنى على حركية التاريخ، في تفسير أحداث الماضي، والحاضر في العراق. وبكلام آخر، هو بمثابة سرد لتجربة شخصية في مجال السرد الروائي، تعكس رؤية أكثر عمقاً لتاريخ العراق الثقافي.
وفي هذا الكتاب، يتحدث أحمد خلف عن احلامه في الكتابة، وعن ظواهر ثقافية وتجمعات أدبية كانت شاهداً على زمن مضى، إلا أن تأثيرها لم يخبو، تجمعات كان شخوصها شعراء وقاصين وفنانين تركوا بصماتهم على حسد الثقافة العراقية، مثل عدنان الصائغ، وارد بدر السالم، وآخرون، وفي زحمة الكتابة لم ينس الكاتب، مظفر النواب، الشاعر الذي تغذى من نضال الإنسان والذي استثمر موهبة الشعر وفرادته: "أنا أعيش قضيتي حتى الطرب بها وعندما يخاطرني هذا الطرب أمام الناس، أحاول أن أشركهم فيه. الحقيقة التي تنشدها ينبغي أن تطرب لها أثناء فعل الكتابة..."، وهكذا يجول الكاتب عبر نصوص الكتاب على هموم الكتابة، عبر مقاربته لسيرة كتاب وفنانين وشعراء، يردون بالكتابة على المحو الذي يستهدف وجودهم، فجاءت الكتابات مزيج من حزن وفرح، ونقدٍ وتقويم...
