"اليوم الذي" مجموع قصص صغيرة تدخل في خانة النقد المجتمعي، ترصد من خلالها "وفاء العمير" التغيير الذي طال القيم المجتمعية لبلادها في وجهه السلبي، وهي مشكلات باتت تفتت الأسرة من الداخل، وأصبحت تؤرق الأهل، مثل أوقات الفراغ، المراهقة ومشكلاتها، تأخر سن الزواج، النظرة إلى المرأة. ما يميز هذا العمل الجرأة في التناول والذكاء السليط في مراقبة الحياة وفهمها مثال على ذلك تطرح الروائية تساؤلاً كيف سيكون حال المرأة في زمن عدم الإستقرار والشروط التي يتوجب أن تتوافر فيها لكي تحظى بشريك حياتها، فبعد أن كانت الأخلاق هي المقياس تبدلت الآن الشروط "أنت ما تطالعين حولك؟ ما تشوفين كيف صار الرجال؟ اللي ترك زوجته وعياله وتزوج من الخارج، واللي يهدد زوجته بالطلاق إذا ما رضت تكتب الفيلا باسمه، واللي جالس في البيت ما يشتغل وزوجته هي اللي تصرف عليه...". كذلك نستطيع أن نتلمس هيافة الرجل التي تتدرج إلى التنوية بحقه في الخروج والحرية، وعند هذا النمط من الرحمن، كأنك في العشرين من عمرك، وهذا الشيب الذي يلمع في رأسك وقار... زوجتك بدرية رحمها الله كانت تعرف غزوات عينيك على كل عبارة سوداء تدخل بقالتك "أبو عيون زايفة...".
وهكذا تمضي المجموعة على نمظ العرض الحر في قضايا مجتمعية، مثل الحرية ومفهومها، السعادة، الغربة، ففي كل قصة إشارة ذكية إلى مسؤولية المجتمع، والأسرة، والفرد في حياته تجاه نفسه واتجاه الآخرين وكلها أسئلة تحتاج إلى إجابات وليس من يجيب.
