هذا الكتاب يضمُّ ما أُتيح لي العثور عليه، وجمعه، من مقالات ودراسات وآراء بأقلام صحافيين وأدباء ومفكرين وشعرا ونقَّاد مرموقين، أو أساتذة جامعيين، منهم أقلام كبار كبار من أصحاب الصناعة الأدبية والأبحاث الفلسفيَّة، تناولوا فيها إنتاجي الشِّعري والنَّثري حسب تاريخ صدوره، فألقوا بذلك أضواء مختلفة على جوانب منه.
قد يتوجَّب عليَّ، بدايةً، الإعتذار إلى القارئ، الذي أُقدِّم إليه كتاباً بكامله لا يتكلَّم إلاَّ عنِّي، ففي هذا العمل ما فيه من إعتداد وإدِّعاء وأثرة وإزدهاء أرفضه، فضلاً عن كونه ليس في طبعي ولا في طبيعتي، فلا لوم عليه، في هذه الحال، إن هو ملَّ جوزف صايغ، وما قيل فيه وعنه، وألقى بالكتاب جانباً، معذوراً غير مُلام.
لكن هذه الصفحات، عندي أشبه بذكريات وصُوى ومعالم على طريق السطور التي اجتزتها منذ ما أمسكت بالقلم إلى أن حان، اليوم، موعد افتراقنا، وفَرضت الفرقة نفسها علينا.
يبقى أنَّ الكتابة عن نصٍّ ليست النصَّ، فهي، إن دلَّت على شيء، فإنَّما تدلُّ، أوَّلاً، على ثقافة كاتبها، ورهافة إحساسه، وقدرته على إستكناه النصِّ، والإحاطة، أخيراً، بأجوائه الجماليّ وآفاقه الفكريَّة.
بهذا المعنى، فإنَّ هذه النصوص تؤلِّف نوعاً من سيرة فكريَّة لكُتَّابها، كما تؤلِّف - إلى حدٍّ ما - بعضاً من سيرة فكريَّة للمكتوب عنه.
