القاضي أبو علي، المحسن بن علي التنوخي، ووالده القاضي أبو القاسم، علي بن محمد، وولده القاضي أبو القاسم علي بن المحسن أسماء لامعة في عالم الأدب والشعر والقضاء وكتاب نشوار المحاضرة، تأليف القاضي أبي علي، المحسن التنوخي، من الكتب النادرة المثال، في عالم الكتاب العربي. قضى التنوخي في تصنيف كتابه هذا، عشرين عاماً، وأخرجه في أحد عشر مجلداً، واشترط فيه على نفسه، أن لا يضمنه شيئاً من كتاب. وقدم المؤلف، كتابه النشوار، للقراء، بأنه "كتاب يشتمل على ما تتأثر من أفواه الرجال، وما دار بينهم في المجالس". وقال: إنه سماه "نشوار المحاضرة، لأن النشوار ما يظهر من كلام حسن، يقال: إن لفلان نشواراً حسناً، أي كلاماً حسناً وذكر عن سبب تأليفه الكتاب "انه اجتمع قديماً مع مشايخ، وقد عرفوا أخبار الدول، وشاهدوا كل غريب عجيب، وكانوا يوردون كل فن من تلك الفنون، فيحفظ ذلك، ويتمثل به.
فلما تطاولت السنون، وبات أكثرهم، خشي أن يضيع هذا الجنس، فأثبته في هذا الكتاب وقال بأنه ألف كتابه هذا يستفيد من العاقل اللبيب، والفطن الأريب، ويجد فيه ما بحثه على العلم بالمعاش والمعاد، والمعرفة بعواقب الصلاح والفساد، وما تفضي إليه أواخر الأمور، وتساس به كافة الجمهور.
