بين المهن التي مارستها النساء في أواخر القرن التاسع عشر وأوائل القرن العشرين، حظيت مهنة الصحافة بشعبية كبيرة.
ففي الشرق العربي، سجلت الصحافة النسائية ازدهاراً كبيراً في مصر وسوريا ولبنان خلال النصف الأول من ذلك القرن، وبين عامي 1892 و1950 ظهرت نحو أربعين مجلة نسائية قامت المرأة بتأسيسها أو بتحريرها.
وبالرغم من تضاؤل عدد المجلات النسائية حالياً في الأقطار العربية نسبيأً، فإن عدد النساء "الصحافيات" اللواتي يسهمن في تحرير المجلات والصحف قد تكاثر. على أن كثرة عددهن لم يمكنهن من النجاح في تبوء مراكز قيادية مسؤولة كرئاسة تحرير صحيفة سياسية مثلاً، وذلك لأسباب عديدة قد تتعلق بالميول الخاصة بالمرأة أو بالعقلية السائدة في المجتمع والموروثات الاجتماعية التي تحاول أن "تضع المرأة في أطر محددة".
إلا أن ذلك لا ينفي إطلاقاً أن النتاج الصحافي النسائي -على اختلاف موضوعاته- هو جزء من النتاج الفكري العام. ولما كان التاريخ الإعلامي العربي -واللبناني خصوصاً- قد أغفل إلى حد ما النتاج الإعلامي والأدبي للمرأة، فهو أغفل بل أهمل أيضاً نتاجها الصحافي، فلم يلحظ لها محطات تذكر، فجاء إلقاء الضوء على النتاج الصحافي منقوصاً.
من هنا، جاء اختيار هذا البحث الذي سيحاول دراسة النتاج الصحافي النسائي، من دون إغفال موضوع أن النهضة الصحافية عموماً ترتبط ارتباطاً وثيقاً بالنهضة النسوية.
