يشتمل هذا الكتاب على دراسة لتاريخ "علم الأرقام" وتحولاته عبر العصور، ثم تطبيق "ومقارنة" المعلومات الأساسية للعلاقة بين الحروف والرقم.
لعلم الأرقام La Numerologie ماض مجيد ويتزامن انطلاقه مع بداية العالم، ولدينا الآن أدلة تبرهن أن له وجوداً منذ أحد عشر ألف سنة بعدما اكتشفت أطر ممارسته في تلك الأيام البعيدة. ويقول أيضاً بعض الأخصائيين إن العمر الحقيقي لهذا العلم هو ثلاثين ألف سنة ق.م... تعلمه النبي موسى بجوار الكهنة المصريين الذين كلفوا بتربيته، وهو بدوره أوصل تلك المعلومات إلى العبرانيين قبل أن يقودهم إلى أرض الميعاد. ومن المعروف أيضاً أنه انطلاقاً من تلك المفاهيم للأرقام بذأت كتابة الـ KabaleK، وهي تفسير لاهوتي للكتاب في آسيا الهند والصين، وليس من العجب أن نجد له الآن آثاراً واضحة في الثقافة اليابانية. أما فيتاغورس في القرن الخامس قبل المسيح فهو الذي أعطاه صورته العصرية. لقد عاش عشرين سنة في مصر استطاع فيها اكتشاف جميع أسرار علم الأرقام، وعندما رجع اليونان علم تلاميذه وبخاصة أفلاطون جميع أسرار هذا الفن فنشروه في حوض المتوسط بدورهم، ومارسه كذلك آباء الكنيسة المسيحية وسموه رمزية الأرقام. وأشهر من عرف في هذا المجال القديس أوغسطينوس. وكان هذا العلم من امتياز بعض كبار العلماء أمثال يدورو وبلزاك وفلوبير، وأشهرهم أينشتاين الذي برهن قدرة الأرقام انطلاقاً من القوة الذرية، وخلال العشرينات حلل بعض العلماء الأميركيين، وبخاصة كامبل تطبيقاً عصرياً لرمزية فيتاغورس حيث خرج علم الأرقام من الغموض وأصبح من الممكن استعماله، على الخصوص عندما تمت عام 1975 ترجمة كتاب أفيري الشهير أرقام الحياة.
