صحة الإنسان ما هي إلا مؤشر حقيقي على رقي المجتمعات، وقدرة الفرد الإنتاجية والاجتماعية... الخ. لذا يجب على كل فرد أن يحدد ويختار ما يناسبه ليحافظ دائماً وفي كل الظروف على صحته. ولكن أسباب المرض كثيرة ومتنوعة، فمنذ بدء الخليقة اجتهد الإنسان لمقاومة حدوث المرض، أو منه استفحالة عند حدوثه باستعمال مواد من مصادر حيوانية أو نباتية أو معدنية. وسميت تلك المواد "بالأدوية" والتي تطورت لتواكب التكنولوجيا الحديثة من حيث أشكالها وتنوع آلياتها وتقليل آثارها الجانبية حتى ما وصلت إليه اليوم.
وقد جاء هذا الكتاب الرابع ضمن سلسلة الكتب الطبية التي تم إعدادها من قبل لتصبح متكاملة تمكن قارئها من الحصول على المنفعة المتكاملة.
وقد تم صياغة هذا الكتاب بلغة خالية من التعقيد وبأسلوب علمي واضح مختصر، متفقاً مع ما جاء في منهاج وزارة التعليم العالي لمساق علم الأدوية. كما ويمكن أن ينتفع بما جاء فيه الصيادلة والأطباء والقارئ العادي، والذي يرغب في المعرفة عن المواد الدوائية.
اشتمل الكتاب على ثمان عشرة وحدة، افنردت الوحدة الأولى منها في مناقشة مبادئ أساسية في علم الأدوية كمدخل له. أما باقي الوحدات، فقد صنفت حسب تأثير الأدوية على مختلف أجهزة الجسم، حيث ذكر لكل منها آلية فعلها، وتصنيفها، واستعمالاتها، وآثارها الجانبية، ومواقع استعمالها، وجرعاتها. كما زود الكتاب بعض اللوحات والجداول والأسماء التجارية للأدوية كمواد مساعدة لتوصيل المادة العلمية بسهولة إلى ذهن القارئ.
