جمع المصنف في كتابه هذا ما جاء عن أخبار مكة، وولاتها، وامرة الحاج، مع ذكر ما وقع من الأحداث مرتباً على السنوات مهتما بمن كان في أمرة الحاج في كل سنة، مع ذكر شيء من فضائل مكة والمدينة، وذكر شيء من مناسك الحج والعمرة. ومصنف الكتاب هو الجزيري، عبد القادر بن زين العابدين بن البدر محمد الأنصاري الجزيري العراقي الحنبلي، من علماء القرن العاشر الهجري. وكتابه هذا من الكتب الهامة في موضوعه رتبه حتى سبعة أبواب وعدة فصول. وهذه ترجمة الأبواب: الباب الأول في إبتداء بناء الكعبة وفضلها وشرفها، ومعنى الحج والعمرة، وما يتعلق بالشروع في ذلك. الباب الثاني: في أمرة الحج. الباب الثالث فيمن ولي أمرة الحاج في زمن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بعد وجوب الفرض، والى تاريخ الشروع في تصنيف الكتاب. الباب الرابع: فيما يشتمل عليه ديوان أمرة الحاج من بعض أصناف المهم والأسباب. الباب الخامس، وهو لب الكتاب وهو في ذكر منازل الحج ومناهله، محلاً بمحل، وما يلتحق بذلك. الباب السادس: في ذكر المدينة الشريفة وأسمائها وفضائلها، ومشاهدها. الباب السابع، وهو خاتمة الكتاب: في ذكر من حج من الأعيان رجالاً ونساءً من الصحابة والخلفاء، والملوك والوزراء، وأكابر الأمراء، مع ذكر بعض أحوالهم وأقوالهم وأفعالهم.
