مطلع هذا القرن بدأت يقظة العرب، وقامت ثورات وإنتفاضات ضد الإستعمار في شتى الأقطار العربية.
بداية أخذ الأمر شكل التململ من نير الإستبداد العثماني في الصحافة والسياسة والأدب، ثم تفاقم بثورات مسلحة ضد الإستعمارين الفرنسي والإنكليزي.
يروي هذا الكتاب صفحات مشرقة من ثورة الزعيم العربي أحمد مريود، ويلقي الضوء على شخصيته وسيرته النضالية بشهادات الملك فيصل والمؤرخين وبعض المعمرين ممن عاصروه.
في هذه السيرة المشتعلة تتبدى مدينة دمشق كعاصمة أبدية للكرامة العربية، ونعاين مجاهدي الجولان، وتمر محاولة إغتيال الجنرال غورو وقصة إعدام أدهم خنجر، وتتناهى أنباء معركة ميسلون وأخبار الشريف حسين، وتكر أسماء مثل تركي باشا العبيدات ونوري السعيد ورضا الركابي وعادل أرسلان وغيرهم.
كل ذلك في أسلوب مشوق مضطرم، تشعر معه أن حادثة إستشهاد أحمد مريود قد جرت البارحة.
