لطائف الظرفاء من طبقات الفضلاء لأبي منصور عبد الملك بن محمد بن إسماعيل النيسابوري الثعالبي. المولود بنيسابور سنة 350هـ/961م وقد امتهن الثعالبي منذ مطلع حياته وصباه التصنيف وقد تميز بصفات كثيرة فكان كثير الحفظ مترسلاً ذا بيان له قدرة في أصناف العلم. وقد جمع بين النتاجالعشري والنثري وأخبار عصره ومن كتبه التي وصلت إليها هذا الكتاب الذي حشد فيه الثعالبي عدداً كبيراً من الشخصيات من شتى الطبقات الاجتماعية وقد أبرزها في صور أدبية. وأهمية الكتاب تكمن في أنه ألفه في أواخر حياته، فكان ملتزماص بالدقة والإيجاز واختيار النص اختياراً ذكياً مع مناسبة للحادثة. وهو كتاب صغير لكنه جامع ممتع موجز مفيد ومسلٍ.
وأصل هذا الكتاب المطبوع نسخة مكتوبة في القرن السابع الهجري وهي النسخة الأم وقد قام المحقق بمقابلة النسخ ببعضها وبذل الجهد المضني بالرجوع إلى مصادر التحقيق وعمد إلى كتابة التعيقات وتخريج الأعلام الوارد ذكرهم والتعريف بهم، كما أجرى الكثير من التصويبات على النص وخرج ما ورد من آيات قرآنية ونصوص وأوضح الاختلاف في الرواية.
